Stellar Quest of the Forbidden 

ASYLUM was a VR based interactive thriller adventure created for “Halloween Feast 2015” located at Ocean Park, Hong Kong.  Utilizing Oculus virtual reality video, Sennheiser binaural audio and a single seat motion based platform, guests would experience a horrific personal journey through the HighCliff Mental Hospital. 

Shenmue was credited and praised for its graphics, soundtrack, realism and ambition.  It attracted a cult following, appearing in several "greatest video games of all time" lists. It became the most expensive video game ever developed at the time, with an estimated production and marketing cost of

$70 million USD.

The experience begins; the sense of movement while seated in the wheelchair is created through real-time simulation, (synchronized visuals and motion base platform). 
It should be noted;  the video presentation accurately demonstrate game dynamics and true Game Play visual representation. Actual models and characters were extracted from the game development platform and utilized without modifications. Volumetric lighting, reflection mapping an additional visual attributes displayed within the presentation are obtainable, demonstrating the current specified game engine capabilities and potential.

Telly Awards

Adored with head gear and earphones each guest, also referred to as patient, is seated in a wheelchair and carefully restrained with waist belts by the orderlies. The setting is the interior of a decrepit asylum/hospital occupied by a staff of evil doctors, nurses and Zombie like orderlies. In addition, other misfits of science are residents, failed surgical and mental experiments that hide in the shadows.

The “Stellar Quest of the Forbidden” video, originally debuted during
E3  (Electronic Entertainment Expo), presented at the EPL Interactive booth. The presentation provided a, “sneak peek” introduction into the Stellar Quest universe, revealing game content, designs and characters for the first time. The overwhelming positive response from distributors, producers and the general public was beyond expectation and extremely complimentary, acknowledged by a captivated audience, expressed through laughter, applause and the intuitive question:


“When can I buy this game..?”.

The guest interacts with the game by selecting available doors, hallways and hidden passages, proceeding through the building while avoiding opposing characters, natural dangers and obstacles in hopes of finding the exit. Each simulated room/chamber contains visual effects, character encounters, themed environments, associated binaural sound effects, character narrative, and 4D effects including motion feedback, providing additional intensity and realism to the game.

Shenmue consists of open-world 3D environments interspersed with brawler battles and quick time events. It features a level of detail considered unprecedented at the time, including a day-and-night system, variable weather effects, non-player characters with daily schedules, and various minigames. The story follows the teenage martial artist Ryo Hazuki as he sets out in revenge for the murder of his father in 1980s Yokosuka, Japan

The orderly pushes the wheelchair following the directions and guidance of the guest/patient, triggered by head orientation, (look left to turn left, look right to turn right). As a team they race against the clock and impossible odds, challenged by a maze of twisting hallways, unexplored sub-chambers and ghastly medical facilities.
